September 2010 Event Update

img_3.jpg Much to our regret, we are shifting our focus and planning for a 2010 Angel City Classic (ACC) to a 2011 event. In spite of the economy, our organization remained optimistic up until the extended deadline however; we were not able to gain the needed sponsorship agreements necessary to produce the event in a manner which fans have come to expect.  Our efforts did activate much verbal interest in the Angel City Classic and we look forward to continuing to cultivate this into future formal agreements with corporate sponsors. While our Title Sponsor, Farmers Insurance Group remained committed to the 2010 event, other challenges directly affected our ability to proceed towards a September classic this year.

The Farmers Angel City Classic became one the largest events of its kind in three short years.  In fact; it was the fifth largest Historically Black College/University classic in the nation in 2008. We have also received positive responses from the universities that participated, and of course the community of Los Angeles, indicating that the Angel City Classic does indeed fulfill its mission to:  Inspire students to treat education seriously while enhancing awareness of the cultural and educational opportunities offered at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

As you should know, while we deeply regret not being able to move forward with the 2010 event; a business decision had to be made for the protection of all involved including our highly respected participating HBCU’s. We certainly understand that many will be disappointed but economic uncertainty continues to exist while impacting both large and small businesses alike.

Our expanded plans and efforts for the upcoming 2010 Farmers Insurance Group Angel City Classic have officially been placed on hold while our organization diligently continues to assess current research and consumer demands that will help dictate all future plans with the ACC.

We appreciate so very much your interest and anticipated support. We will continue to keep our ACC family apprised of future event plans immediately upon any and all exciting developments as well as keep our website current with breaking news. Please stay tuned!

Sincere Regards,

The Angel City Classic Team

ACC Foundation Formed to Help Further Impact the Los Angeles Community

img_4.jpg To maintain the Angel City Classic momentum and enhance the ability to provide additional programs and events that encourage youth to take education seriously, the Angel City Classic announces the formation of The Angel City Classic Foundation. This 501Cc3 non-profit organization will operate within the community with a mission to: To supply and develop fundamentally sound motivational tools designed to inspire the development and advancement of youth through primary and post-secondary education.

The ACCF will collaborate with and support existing programs that compliment its mission. For the remainder of this year and beyond the Angel City Classic Foundation plans to focus its’ attention towards community projects that inspire all involved to be creative, proactive and involved in positive community events. By building stronger corporate, political and community relations the foundation aims to help alleviate the financial strain of paying for a college education by providing scholarships to deserving students and sustain impactful programs and events including the Angel City Classic.
